Offline Mode
Field Ledger works without signal. Basements, attics, country roads — keep working. Your data syncs the moment you're back online.
How It Works
Every action you take in the app — creating a job, drafting an invoice, attaching a photo, checking a checklist item — is saved immediately to your phone. When your phone has signal again, those changes sync to your private account.
You never lose work. You never wait for a spinner. You never see "no internet" mid-job.
What Works Offline
- Creating, editing, and viewing all jobs, quotes, invoices, customers, and reports
- Attaching photos
- Generating PDFs (locally, on your phone)
- Tap-to-navigate (uses your maps app's offline cache — works in dead zones)
- Reading any data you've already accessed
What Needs Signal
- Sending an email or SMS (Field Ledger queues the send; it goes out the moment you have signal)
- Initial sign-in to a new device (your data downloads on first connect)
- Receiving updates made on another device
Sync
Field Ledger syncs automatically in the background whenever your phone has data. There is no "sync now" button — it just happens.
Conflict Handling
If you edit the same record on two devices while offline (rare for solo operators), Field Ledger uses last-write-wins at the field level. The most recent edit wins.
What If Sync Fails?
Sync retries automatically. If a record fails to sync repeatedly, tap to see the error and retry.
Note on the Web Version
The browser version of Field Ledger requires an internet connection for most actions. Offline mode is a mobile feature.
Tips
- Open the mobile app once before you head into a dead zone — this primes the cache
- Photos are large; if you take many photos in a no-signal area, sync can take a few minutes when you reconnect
